Monitoring Equipment

Measure what your compressed air system really does. Flow meters, dew point meters, leak detectors and flow controllers help you find waste, protect air quality and size equipment correctly.

Buying guide

Why monitor your compressed air system

Compressed air is one of the most expensive utilities in a plant, and much of the waste is invisible: leaks, artificial demand and poorly controlled pressure. Monitoring equipment shows where the air goes, whether the air quality is right, and where savings are possible.

Equipment types

TypeWhat it doesTypical use
Flow metersMeasure air consumption, often with data logging or MODBUS outputEnergy audits, cost allocation, compressor sizing
Dew point metersMeasure how dry the air isVerifying dryer performance and air quality
Air leak detectorsLocate leaks, usually by ultrasoundLeak surveys and maintenance programmes
Flow controllersHold a stable downstream pressureReducing artificial demand and pressure swings

Where to start

Many plants begin with a flow meter at the compressor room outlet and a leak survey. The results show whether you need more compressor capacity, or simply less waste. Pair the findings with the right compressor and dryer.

Frequently asked questions

Which flow meter do I need?
Thermal mass meters are common for compressed air because they read standard flow directly. Insertion types suit large pipes; inline types suit smaller lines.

How often should dew point be checked?
Continuous monitoring is best where air quality is critical; otherwise periodic checks confirm the dryer is working.

Do leak detectors pay back?
Usually quickly, because fixing leaks reduces compressor running time and energy use.
